No new charges for Semaj Booker's latest stunt
By Associated Press
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A 10-year-old boy won't face any new charges for his latest attempt to sneak aboard a flight out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport but a deputy prosecutor says the boy may have jeopardized a deal he made in an earlier case.
King County prosecutor's spokesman Dan Donohoe says prosecutors decided not to charge Semaj Booker in this week's adventure. But Pierce County Deputy Prosecutor Fred Wist says he will seek to have the boy declared in violation of a deal he made to avoid being sentenced in the earlier case. In January 2007, Booker got through airport security and made it to San Antonio, Texas, with a stop in Phoenix. Days before he had stolen and crashed a car. His mother said he was unhappy living in the Tacoma suburb of Lakewood and wanted to be with his grandfather in Dallas. A judge convicted the boy of car theft last summer but said he wouldn't have to go to juvenile detention if he stayed out of trouble for a year. On Tuesday, the boy was stopped at a Sea-Tac flight gate after he failed to show a boarding pass. An airport spokesman says the boy indicated to police he was once again trying to get to Dallas. |
