Girl made up Centralia rape story, police say
CENTRALIA, Wash. -- A 17-year-old girl who said she was raped in broad daylight at a Centralia park made the story up, police said Thursday.

The teen had reported to investigators that she was attacked Saturday afternoon at Fort Borst Park.

She claimed she was raped and that the attacker moved her through wooded trails and across a stream before continuing the assault.

In a police report, an officer wrote that detectives interviewed the girl and she took them to the alleged crime scene but, based on her statements and their investigation, police "were able to determine that the crime did not occur."

The girl allegedly concocted the story to get out of "other complications and obligations that she had not met," police wrote.

The case has been forwarded to the Lewis County Prosecutor's Office, but it was not known if the girl would face charges.
