Ken Schram: A brazen display of hypersensitivity
By Ken Schram
Is it really time to sanitize our world?
The Seattle Mariners - in a brazen display of hypersensitivity - have announced that a couple of sections of Safeco Field will be no-peanut zones for a pair of games later in the season. This is an ode to those who suffer from peanut allergies. As such, for home games on August 5th and September 9th, sections 311 and 312 will undergo a special scrubbing and peanut products will be banned from those areas, as well as from nearby concession stands. Now as long as the M's are in such a caretaking mode, I have some other suggestions. How about a section of the ballpark encased in mosquito netting for those allergic to bee stings? How about a wind tunnel section to protect folks who can't be around perfume and cologne? In fact, I think the price of a Safeco ticket should include being provided with a full body environmental suit, complete with oxygen, to keep people from being exposed to everything and anyone that might be the catalyst for any and all allergic reactions. After all, it's a big, bad dangerous ragweed world out there. We all need to be protected from something - including the misguided, misadvised, insensate folks who think its their jobs to sanitize the world we live in. --- Have something to say to Ken? E-mail him at kenschram@komo4news.com. And be sure to join Ken, along with John Carlson, on "The Commentators", which airs every weekday from 3-6 p.m. on AM 570 KVI. It's a lively exchange of information, insight and perspective with two guys who don't agree on much, but still manage to enjoy each other as they tackle issues of the day. Even better, callers are invited in on the verbal action. |
