CENTRALIA, Wash. -- Celesta Siegle is full of dread over having to go back to school next week.

It's not the teachers or her classes Siegle is losing sleep over; the 16 year old is worried about fitting in, but not for the typical teenage reasons. Siegle gets around in a wheelchair, and a beater at that.

"When you go to school when the wheelchair is not good any more and it's not cool, it's just so ewww. You feel like oh God, here comes another horrible day, what are they going to say now?" Siegle said.

Spina bifida makes her feel like an outcast. Her immune system and leg muscles don't work, and neither do the brakes on the wheelchair she's outgrown.

"The only thing that's left in it are the screws," the teen said.

The seat belt is broken, tires are worn and the rickety chair rubs Siegle's legs raw. She has rolled herself around in the same chair since she was 12, but mom can't afford a new customized chair.

"I can duct tape this and duct tape that, but only so much you can do," said mother, Merika Olson.

The state denied the family's recent request for a new chair. KOMO News is helping Siegle and her family sort through the medical insurance mix-up. And in the meantime, Halls Medical offered to lend Siegle a wheelchair until the mix-up is cleared.

"I don't have to go to school in this thing!" Siegle said of her worn chair.

Siegle, who has enough struggles fitting in at school, will no longer have to worry about fitting into a wheelchair.

In exchange for KOMO's help, Siegle promises to aim for a 4.0 grade point average.
