Belltown Halloween shooter still at large
SEATTLE - The gunman who shot a woman in the face and a man in the leg during a Halloween night altercation in Belltown is still on the loose, police said.

Police blotter reports initially said that the shooter was taken into custody for questioning after he and a friend brought the woman victim to the hospital.

But Seattle police spokeswoman Renee Witt said Sunday that the man taken in for questioning turned out not to be the gunman. He was released, and now officers are still looking for the actual gunman.

At last report, the woman remained in critical condition with life-threatening injuries at Swedish Hospital, and the male victim was in serious condition.

Police said the two were hit by gunfire when two men got into an argument in a parking lot at First Avenue and Blanchard Street at about 11:30 p.m. Friday, as Halloween revelers roamed from bar to bar nearby.

The shooter hit the other man in the upper right leg near the groin area. The woman, who was not involved in the altercation and just happened to be passing through the area, was hit in the face by a stray bullet. Police said it appeared to be an accident.

Witnesses told police they heard five to eight shots fired during the argument.

Gang unit detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene of the shooting, where hordes of Halloween party-goers roamed the streets, some in bizarre costumes.

The identities of the victims were not released.
