Woman killed, boy injured in head-on crash
PUYALLUP, Wash. -- A woman was killed and three other people were injured Monday when an SUV crossed into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into two other vehicles.

Trooper Brandy Kessler said a woman driving an Acura SUV eastbound on State Route 512 lost control and crossed over the median, through a cable barrier, and collided with a semi-truck. The impact of the crash forced the semi into the path of a Toyota pickup truck, causing it to roll.

The 64-year-old woman who was driving the SUV died at the scene. Her name has not been released.

The man driving the pickup truck was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma with serious injuries. His 4-year-old son, who was with him in the truck, was taken to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital where he was initially listed in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable condition, Kessler said.

The driver of the semi truck was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup to be treated for broken bones.

All lanes of westbound SR-512 were shut down for nearly three hours near the South Hill Mall while troopers investigated the collision. Kessler said it is still not known what caused the woman to lose control of her car.

This is the third fatal crossover accident along this stretch of road since the cable barriers were installed a year and a half ago.
