Ken Schram: Judge's sharp tongue ruffles feathers

Maybe I'm an oddball.

When it comes to judges I expect them to be fair, impartial and well-versed on the law.

Near as I can tell, King County District Court Judge Judith Eiler fits the bill.

So why has she been hauled in front of the State Commission on Judicial Conduct?

Well, seems Judge Judy isn't as warm and cuddly as some would like her to be.

She stands accused of occasionally hurling a sarcastic comment from the bench.

Even worse, it's said that Judge Judy has actually been rude to defendants, commenting to one that "if you drive like an idiot when you're late for work, you're going to have to pay for it."

Oh, the humanity!

Imagine the indignity suffered by an errant scofflaw or some overly officious lawyer who aren't asked to hold hands and sing Kumbaya.

Judge Eiler has been in hot water over her courtroom demeanor before.

A few years back the commission decided she was a tad undignified on the bench and sent her off for training.

This time around, she could lose her job.

Like I said, maybe I'm an oddball but it seems to me that if we had a few more sharp-minded judges with a sometimes sharp tongue like Judith Eiler, the justice system would be much better served.
