Man seriously hurt in W. Seattle ATV crash

Police car lights at night
WEST SEATTLE - A 41-year-old man was seriously hurt in the crash of an all-terrain vehicle late Christmas night, police said.

Officers and medics were called to the scene, at 40th Avenue and Barton Street, just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Jeff Kapple of the Seattle police said the victim was out riding the ATV with a friend on city streets, but the friend was ahead and didn't see what happened.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was reported to have life-threatening injuries from the crash.

The identity of the victim was not immediately available.

The crash was at least the third serious accident involving an ATV since the December snowstorms began in the Northwest last week.

In the two previous accidents, a 10-year-old boy was seriously hurt Dec. 19 when he was hit by an ATV in Kitsap County, and a 51-year-old man was killed Saturday when he was thrown from his ATV into some trees in Boring, Ore.
