SEATTLE -- Police say three men walking on a downtown Seattle street were shot early Friday by a man who stepped out of an alley.

Police spokesman Mark Jamieson said it happened about 2:30 a.m. in the Pioneer Square area, on James Street near Second Avenue.

The victims, all in their 20s and 30s, have been taken to Harborview Medical Center. All three men are expected to survive.

The first officers to arrive saw one of the shooting victims being loaded into the trunk of a car, which sped off and later dropped the wounded man at Harborview.

Police spokeswoman Renee Witt said they know the gunman in some way, although the motive is unknown.

Homicide and gang detectives are looking for the gunman and interviewing people who may have knowledge about the crime.
