Man shot outside Seattle's Benaroya Hall
SEATTLE -- A man was shot in the face while apparently waiting at a downtown bus stop at Third Avenue and Union Street on Thursday night, according to police.

Police spokeswoman Renee Witt said a witness reported hearing four gunshots about 10:50 p.m.

A man in his 40s was taken to Harborview Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the face. His current condition was not known.

The shooter remains at large, and police have heard contradicting reports as to how he got away. One witness told police he drove off in an older red car. Another told investigators he saw the gunman run away with other men.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting, as well as a description of the gunman were not available.

The shooting occurred just outside the entrance into Benaroya Hall, where the Seattle Chamber Music Society was hosting the 2009 Winter Festival on Thursday night. It is not known whether the shooting victim had attended the performance.

The police department's gang unit is investigating.
