SEA-TAC AIRPORT -- At least four aircraft were targeted with a laser beam on Wednesday evening while heading into the airport for a landing, according to airport officials.

Airport spokesman Perry Cooper said pilots of the four planes reported seeing a bright laser light while heading south into the airport around 9:10 p.m. All four planes landed without problems.

Investigators believe the laser beam was being shot from near 136th Street near the north end of the airport. King County deputies searched the area, but did not find any clues.

Wednesday's incident comes on the heel of a series of reported laser beam targeting incidents near the airport.

On Sunday evening, another flight reported seeing a bright laser beam while heading into Sea-Tac Airport. Last month, a dozen pilots reported having fallen victim to a similar incident.

David Campbell with the Air Lines Pilots Association said last month that bright laser light isn't likely to jeopardize the safety of passengers, but can be a huge distraction to the pilots.

"We're able to handle this threat, but it's something that we'd rather not (handle)," he said. "The danger is, as you look to find where you are in relation to the airport, the laser beam hits you right directly in the eye. That's the real danger."

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Transportation Security Administration and the King County Sheriff's Office have been notified of the latest incident. It is a federal offense to shine a laser at a plane in flight.
