Gregoire signs bill to make graduation easier
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Gov. Chris Gregoire has given final approval to a measure that removes one graduation obstacle for high school students.

The bill that Gregoire signed into law Monday eliminates a requirement that students keep taking the Washington Assessment of Student Learning's math test every year until graduation.

Passing the math WASL is not a graduation requirement. But students who fail the test have been required to take two additional math credits, and retake the test annually.

Under the new law, which takes effect immediately, high school students who fail the 10th grade math test are still required to keep earning math credits.
