SEATTLE (AP) - Authorities have identified the woman found dead inside the trunk of a car as Patricia Gayle Belvin, 53, of Seattle.

A man turned himself in and was arrested following the discovery of Belvin's body inside his car, which had been parked for months near a north end park, police said.

Bail was set Monday at $750,000 for Anthony Lee Washington, 56, of Seattle, who was being held for investigation of homicide. Washington, a 28-year City Light employee, said the woman had committed suicide, according to a statement issued by the King County prosecutor's office.

Belvin had been shot twice, according to a report filed in West District Court. According to a preliminary police report, her body had been wrapped in plastic and placed in a large black duffel bag.

Judge Arthur Chapman ordered Washington not to have any contact with a witness.

Police said the body was found Sunday by a woman who lived near the place where the silver Mercury Cougar registered to Washington was parked on a street near Carkeek Park.

The woman "stated that the suspect had told her to stay away from his things, specifically his vehicle," prosecutors wrote in a court filing. "The complainant became suspicious of the defendant's vehicle and opened the trunk and discovered the body."

Homicide detectives then contacted Washington, who voluntarily turned himself in at the North Precinct, police Officer Sean P. Whitcomb said.

In 1999 Washington was convicted of trespassing and two counts of assault charges, all involving one episode.

He works as a material supplier in the tool room at City Light's North Service Center, utility spokeswoman Suzanne Hartman said.

Washington also is involved with Picaro Press, a local publishing company, and has used the names "Uncle Stew" and "Starms," according to the company's listing on the Web site AllAboutJazz.com.
