Gov. Gregoire in DC to meet with Obama over health care issues
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Governor Chris Gregoire is in Washington D.C. Wednesday to meet with President Obama and other governors over health care.

The meeting is among a bipartisan group of governors who co-hosted regional forums on health reform earlier this year. They include Democrats Jennifer Granholm of Michigan, Jim Doyle of Wisconsin and Republicans Jim Douglas of Vermont and Mike Rounds of South Dakota.

The White House says the meeting will serve as a forum for the governors to share what they learned and discuss the health care overhaul and skyrocketing health care costs.

Obama is promising to work with Congress to pass health care legislation before the end of the year.

"We know that we're going to have to reform this system," Obama said. "And I'm confident that, if everybody puts their minds to it, we can get it done."

Both the Senate and House are holding two separate hearings on health care reform Wednesday, but the Obama administration is facing a tough fight. Many in the health care industry and Republicans are already sounding alarms about a public plan for health care, warning it would amount to government takeover of the industry.

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll shows that 62 percent of Americans support a government health insurance plan. But more than 80 percent are concerned it could lower the quality of their care and increase the deficit.
