YELM, Wash. -- A 4-year-old boy suffered serious facial injuries in a hit-and-run crash near Yelm Tuesday evening.

It was around 7:30 when the driver of a Subaru wagon lost control of his car on Yelm Highway and veered into oncoming traffic, said Trooper Brandi Kessler with the Washington State Patrol.

He collided with an Isuzu Amigo and then struck a fence in a parking lot. Meanwhile, the Amigo ran off the road, struck a metal fence and rolled over onto its roof.

A 4-year-old boy in the Amigo suffered serious facial injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The 30-year-old driver and a 10-year-old passenger had minor injuries and were both taken to an Olympia hospital for treatment. Troopers note that all three people in the Amigo were wearing proper restraints.

The wagon driver, identified by the State Patrol as Robert Ottoboni, ran away from the scene, but was captured a short time later at a nearby veterinarian clinic. He was treated for minor injuries at the scene, arrested and booked into the Thurston County jail for investigation of vehicular assault and hit-and-run.

Troopers believe alcohol and/or drugs could be a factor in the crash.
