Who'd a thunk that giving someone a key to the city would be so contentious?
Certainly not Mount Vernon Mayor Bud Norris.
I'd like to invite hizzoner to climb out of frying pan and into the fire.
Come on down Bud.
Mr. Mayor got it into his head that an entertainer who is trying to morph into a Fox News political analyst should be honored by the City of Mount Vernon.
Yes, Glenn Beck - the sobbing and teary-eyed purveyor of patriotism as HE sees it - is coming to town.
Mayor Bud is now up to his popularity polls in controversy because of the invitation to Beck.
He never consulted with anyone about this, so now Mayor Bud has ticked off most of his city council and local business leaders, not to mention a whole bunch of what Mayor Bud might call his constituents, who don't take kindly to Beck's brand of "hot talk."
So for the brain cramp now called "Glenn Beck Day"; for all but excluding actual journalists from this weekend's event and certainly for acting like Mount Vernon is his personal fiefdom, take a bow Mayor Bud Norris, because this "Schrammie" is for you.
