Police: Son stabbed elderly mother in Tukwila
TUKWILA, Wash. -- A 79-year-old mother and her 39-year-old son were critically wounded in a double stabbing Thursday morning.
The incident happened at 11:30 a.m. in the 3800 block of South 158th Street, police said. The woman, who only speaks Russian, called her daughter to say she'd been attacked.
"She did say she was stabbed and needed help," said police spokesperson Mike Murphy.
The daughter called 911 and rushed to their condo at the Laurel Estates where a trail of blood indicated the struggle had moved from room to room.
Investigators believe the son stabbed the mother, but they aren't sure exactly what transpired in the condo. They have recovered a knife at the scene.
"We don't know how his wounds were delivered. If she was involved or if he did it to himself, we just don't know at this point," said Murphy.
Both the mother and son were rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries.
"It's unbelievable, heartbreaking," said neighbor Joann Shyne.
Police said initial investigation indicates the incident was a domestic violence case that involved no one else.
"We don't know why and don't have any kind of motives," Murphy said.
Neighbors described the stabbed woman as a friendly person who spoke little English but was generous with hugs.
"She was a wonderful woman and son -- a nice guy who took care of his parents. And just unbelievable to hear about something like this happening," said Shyne.
The mother's husband was not home during the attack, but was later hospitalized for heart trouble.
