Search for Clemmons leads police to Seattle home
SEATTLE -- Police searching for the person of interest in the Lakewood police shooting have surrounded a home in the city's Leschi neighborhood.

Spokesman Jeff Kappel said the SWAT team surrounded the home around 8:45 p.m. after receiving a tip that Maurice Clemmons may be inside.

Investigators on the scene said negotiators are trying to get the man inside to surrender without incident.

"We have to go on the assumption that anyone that may be involved in the events today is armed and dangerous. So we're using an abundance of caution," said Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel.

Clemmons, 37, is being sought in the deadly shooting of four Lakewood police officers on Sunday morning.

Pierce County Det. Ed Troyer said Clemmons was believed to have been in the area around the time of the shooting, but declined to say what evidence might link him to the shooting.

The home is located just blocks from the location where Seattle Officer Timothy Brenton was shot to death while in a patrol car with Officer Britt Sweeney, a trainee, less than a month ago. No connection has been made between the two incidents.
