Ballard's Market Street Pharmacy to close
SEATTLE - Now, after 45 years in the neighborhood, the pharmacy is shutting its doors for good.

It's the end of an era for a "mom and pop" pharmacy in Ballard.

The Market Street Pharmacy did so much more than fill prescriptions. They treated their customers like family.

Now, after 45 years in the neighborhood, the pharmacy is shutting its doors for good.

"All of his staff are so very nice and so very loving. And I'm going to miss that. I'm going to miss that," says Andrea Alfred holding back tears. She's been a faithful customer since 1998.

George Stimac founded the pharmacy in 1962. His son John now runs it. Both took pride in knowing their customer's names.

"A lot of people have my home phone number, " says John Stimac. And he says, they could call anytime.

"Up until a few years ago, we used to do free delivery," says George Stimac.

Customers say when you walk into this neighborhood pharmacy, the people behind the counter care about you. Really care.

But now, the pharmacy can't afford to stay in business anymore. George and John Stimac say they're not blaming the big pharmacy chains. They blame the insurance companies.

"The insurance company doesn't pay enough to cover our costs," says George Stimac.

And so, it's time to call it quits. The pharmacy's last day is Tuesday.

"There are a lot of good memories here," says George Stimac.
