'They are going to make our family suffer for what he did'
Police and fire officials are looking for the person who leaked the image, which is being circulated on the Internet.
Clemmons' niece Destiny Hinton has set up a curbside shrine for her dead uncle, who murdered four Lakewood police officers before a Seattle patrolman shot and killed him.
"I'm sure it will be torn down. I'm sure nobody's happy about it being here, but he's still a human. And we're still his family," she said.
Clemmons' family is devastated by the graphic photo of Clemmons is circulating the Internet.
"Open, uncovered. My uncle's body," Hinton said. "I don't even have a word to say what it is, but it's really hurtful. My son was really hurt from that. My family is going to be hurt from this. It's just really hard."
Seattle police, just as shocked, released the following statement on Wednesday:
"Seattle police, fire and the King County Medical Examiner's Office have been made aware of an image circulating of deceased suspect Maurice Clemmons.
"All three agencies have launched their own internal investigations to determine the origin of the image in question."
Destiny Hinton, whose father Rickey Hinton was arrested as a suspected accomplice to Clemmons, believes police want to punish her whole family.
"The statement the police made was true -- that they are going to make our family suffer for what he did," she said.
It is not necessarily illegal to take pictures at a crime scene; however, there are policies that prohibit officers from passing such pictures along or leaking them to the media.
