Bullet-riddled body found in Everett parking garage
EVERETT, Wash. - Police say they have few clues to go on after a man's bullet-riddled body was found lying in a downtown Everett parking garage on Sunday morning.
Officers rushed to the scene, in the 3000 block of Lombard Avenue, at about 5:10 a.m. after receiving an anonymous 911 call about a "man down" in the parking garage.
Arriving at the location, police found a man's body lying on the ground beside some parked cars inside the garage. He appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds, said Everett Police Deaprtment spokesman Sgt. Robert Goetz.
But how it happened - and who did it - "really is a mystery right now," Goetz said.
Goetz said the victim appears to be an older man although his identity has not been confirmed.
The Everett Police Department's Major Crimes Unit quickly launched a homicide investigation at the crime scene, which is located underneath the popular Everett Senior Activity Center. The scene is also about a block from the Snohomish County Jail.
No suspects or motive have been established in this case, and police say the murder weapon was not found at the scene.
Investigators were seen focusing a lot of their attention around several vehicles in the garage, but they won't say if any of those cars belonged to the victim.
Investigators say they believe the man was shot sometime in the overnight hours. Everett Silvertips hockey fans often park at the garage on game night, and there was a game last night at Comcast Arena one block away. It's not clear if the victim might have come from there.
"There's really little for us to go on right now, we don't have any suspects or motives at this time. So we're really starting from square one on this investigation."
Because of previous problems and security issues, there are surveillance cameras inside the garage. Police hope one of them caught the face of a killer.
Meanwhile, neighbors were left rattled by the killing.
"This is a strange feeling - waking up and finding out that somebody is murdered close to your place," says Richard Debarge.
If anyone has any information regarding this homicide they are encouraged to call 911 or the Everett Police Department tip line at (425) 257–8450.
This is a breaking news story. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
