FORT LEWIS, Wash. - A Fort Lewis soldier was killed by enemy forces using small arms fire in Baghdad Iraq, the Department of Defense annouced on Wednesday.

Defense officials said Sgt. Joel A. Dahl, 21, of Los Lunas, N.M. Died June 23. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

Dahl enlisted in the Army in April of 2004. He spent time at Fort Benning, Ga. Before being assigned to Fort Lewis in May of 2005.
