EVERETT, Wash. - An 18-year-old man is being questioned after he reportedly struck and killed his father during an altercation early Saturday, police said.

Snohomish County sheriff's deputies responded to the Village Green Mobile Home Park near Everett at about 12:35 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from the son.

The 18-year-old told detectives that he struck his father during an argument at the home, said Lt. Kathi Lang of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. His 50-year-old father collapsed and stopped breathing, she said.

Efforts to revive the father were not successful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 18-year-old son was taken into custody and is being questioned.

Detectives said there were at least four people present when the argument started in the home, located at 12605 E. Gibson Way, Space 32, near Everett.

Neighbors say the residents of the home moved in a year or two ago, and that they've heard shouting, arguing and loud parties at the house before - and wondered what would come next.

"Because I knew, eventually, something would come to a head on this," says one neighbor, Mike Kaytor. "We're trying to raise children here in a small community. And for these things to happen in our neighborhood, it kind of puts you on edge."

Detectives would not say how many times the father was hit, or where he was hit. There are no indications that a club or other weapon was used, but investigators haven't ruled out the possibility.

Detectives questioned all the witnesses and the investigation is continuing.

The identities of the father and son were not immediately released.
