EVERETT -- An Everett police officer is fighting for her life after she was involved in a crash on her way to a burglary call -- and police say the car that hit her might have been involved in the crime she was on the way to investigate.

Officer Suzanne Eviston, 37, was responding to a burglary call just after 7 p.m. Sunday evening at a construction site in the 1500 block of Industry Avenue in Everett when she collided with a stolen Jeep driven by the man suspected in the burglary.

Rescue crews had to cut off the patrol car's door and peel back the roof to free her and her police dog Axel.

She was then rushed to Harborview Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition. Axel was taken to a nearby veterinarian for treatment of a broken leg.

Police say the man driving the Jeep and two others inside were not seriously injured.

The driver was later arrested for investigation of first degree assault and was being held at the Snohomish County Jail. The other two were still being questioned about the burglaries.

Eviston is a 10-year veteran of the Everett Police Department. She was honored as Everett Police Department's Officer of the Year in 2006.
