Cops nab loot from car prowlers - is any of it yours?
KENT, Wash. -- A multi-agency police investigation has resulted in the arrest of two prolific car prowl suspects and the recovery of thousands of dollars of stolen property, and police want to know if any of it is yours.
Detectives and investigators from the Kent, Renton and Tukwila Police Departments and King County Sheriff’s Office, working with the King County Prosecutor’s Office believe that Bonneau "Bo" Harris and Tiffany Schatz are responsible for breaking into over 100 cars that were parked outside of department stores in South King County. Police say they stole more than $50,000 in property that includes GPS units, laptop computers, cell phones, wallets and purses.
"Next to a person's home, a vehicle is probably the most expensive thing that they have purchased," said Lt. Lisa Price with Kent Police. "And to have somebody break into that, it's very offensive."
Also among the loot, titanium Boeing bolts, children's clothes, and a luxurious wedding dress.
"I'm sure there is a woman out there who would really like to have her wedding gown back," Price said.
The pair were caught when surveillance video showed them allegedly using a stolen credit card at a gas station and buying food at a McDonalds. Police say ironically, the suspects drove around with their dog, who is named "Karma."
"I would add, they probably should rename it to be 'Bad Karma,' " Price said.
The investigation led to the recovery of a large amount of property from a storage locker and several local pawn shops. Much of the property has been returned, but there are still numerous items in evidence.
So Kent Police are seeking help in identifying the owners of the remaining property. They believe that if someone has been a victim of a car prowl between Oct. 1, 2009 and Feb. 4, 2010, it may be possible that some of their property has been recovered and is currently in police custody.
A virtual viewing of the more than 150 recovered items is available on a special website. If a car prowl victim sees what they believe to be their property, they are asked to contact Officer Bateman at (253) 856-5894 or by email for assistance in recovering the item.
