Suspected bank robber shot by police
TACOMA -- A suspected bank robber was wounded by police officers soon after the robbery in Tacoma Monday morning.
A man in his 30s robbed the Columbia Bank branch in the 1900 block of S. Union Avenue just after 11 a.m. and fled in a car, Tacoma Police said.
Witnesses gave police a good description of the getaway car and license plate. Officers found the car a short time later near S. 15th Street and S. Sprague Avenue.
The suspected robber jumped out of the car and ran down 15th, but was cornered by police a block away at S. Ridgewood Avenue.
An altercation ensued and the suspect was shot by Tacoma police officers.
He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital but officials say he doesn't not have life-threatening injuries.
