The Schrammie: Get your priorities straight

They dinked around and they dawdled.

But they don't pay the price for that.

We do.

And so it is that I'd like to invite all 147 members of the Washington State Legislature to put their per diem checks away and come on down.

Esteemed lawmakers are currently engaged in a special legislative session because they didn't get the budget done on time.

So we're paying $20,000 a day in overtime.

Are you wondering what our elected officials actually did get done during regular working hours?

Here are some "highlights."

- They passed a bill requiring state agencies to use recycled paper.

- They passed a bill allowing local government to create golf cart zones.

- They passed a bill saying tattooing can be dangerous.

- They passed a bill on license limitations for pacific sardines

- They passed a bill dealing with wine labels and ballot envelopes.

I wish I had the time to list all the "prioritized" issues that sucked up time during the regular session.

I ask you: Is it any wonder that the legislature didn't have enough time to get around to doing something as inconsequential as the state budget?

And is it any wonder that this week all those who are working overtime on our dime should be asked to take a bow, because this "Schrammie" is for every single one of 'em.
