PARKLAND, Wash. -- Two people were injured in a shooting at a home near Pacific Lutheran University on Wednesday night.

Pierce County Det. Jerry Bates said the incident started at a home in the 200 block of 126th St. S. at approximately 8:30 p.m.

A 16-year-old girl and her 27-year-old boyfriend were visiting someone at the house. The boyfriend left for a while and came back, at which time he became angry with another man at the house, according to police.

The boyfriend opened fire at the 39-year-old man, Bates said, prompting him to return fire.

The shooting spilled out onto the street, and the boyfriend attempted to run down the street. He was hit multiple times, but managed to reach a nearby home, the owner of which called 911, Bates said.

The 27-year-old man was taken to Tacoma General Hospital to be treated for gun shot wounds. His condition was not known.

Bates said the 39-year-old man was left at a nearby hospital by an anonymous driver. The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

A stray round hit the door of a PLU dormitory near the home during the shooting, Bates said. No students were injured.

Police believe another person may have aided the 39-year-old man during the gunfight; however, they have no suspect.

The cause of the argument between the two men was not known, and the investigation is ongoing.
