Wash. truck driver hits $8 million jackpot

WEST RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) - A West Richland truck driver has won a $8.8 million Washington lottery jackpot.

Brett Lothrop turned in the winning ticket on Thursday. He'll get $3.3 million after taxes because he chose a lump sum payment. A lottery official says his other option was to get $264,000 a year for 25 years.

Lothrop bought the winning ticket at a Safeway Store in Richland. He stopped at a truck stop in Ellensburg on Tuesday to check his ticket and found he had won.

Lothrop plans to retire from truck driving and buy a business. That plan was already in the works but he says his lottery winnings will help.
