Seattle University student found dead in Chile
A Seattle University student has been found dead in Chile, according to family members.

Michaela Farnum was on a day hike at Parque Nacional La Campana about 40 miles northwest of Santiago with five other students when she fell behind, said Jonathan Farnum, her brother. She became concerned and rushed to catch up to another hiker, but her friends never saw her again.

Family members received word of Farnum's disappearance on Friday night. On Saturday, a park ranger informed the family that Farnum had fallen off a cliff and died.

Farnum, 20, was a junior at Seattle University, where she was studying international business and Spanish. She left for Chile on July 18th for a six-month study abroad program in Valaparaiso.

Professors at Seattle University said Farnum was a model student.

"She was very much a student leader. She was involved in campus ministries, as well as our residential program on campus. She will be missed," said Robert Kelly, vice president of student development at the school.

Farnum attended Jackson High School in Mill Creek.

Her father is on his way to Chile to recover her body.
