Chaos on Hwy. 7 as wrong-way driver plows into cars
SPANAWAY, Wash. - A driver with four prior DUIs on his record crashed into three other vehicles Sunday afternoon while heading the wrong way down Highway 7 at Spanaway, the Washington State Patrol reported.

State troopers responded to the scene, near the intersection with Highway 507, at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a wrong-way driver.

Trooper Guy Gill said the driver, a 34-year-old Tacoma man, was taken into custody.

A preliminary investigation found that the man started heading south in the northbound lanes of Highway 7 in the Spanaway area.

He struck two cars near the 176th Street intersection, then kept going. Near the Highway 507 intersection, he slammed head-on into another vehicle, which brought him to an abrupt stop.

"Amazingly, NO major injuries," Gill said in a tweet.

Troopers checked the man's record and determined that he had four prior DUIs.

"Some folks just don't get it!" Gill tweeted.

It was the latest in a series of wrong-way crashes on Western Washington highways in recent weeks and months.

On Saturday morning, six cars crashed and four people were injured when a suspected drunk driver pulled a U-turn and headed the wrong way up Interstate 5 near Everett, officials said.
