TUKWILA, Wash. - An aggressive driver who slammed into a disabled logging truck Thursday morning while attempting to bypass traffic near Interstate 5 has died of his injuries, the Washington State Patrol reported.

State troopers said the driver, identified as Ivan Camacho-Nunez, 23, of Tukwila died at about 2 p.m. Saturday at Harborview Medical Center, where he was taken after the crash.

The accident happened Thursday at about 6:45 a.m. as Camacho-Nunez was trying to merge from eastbound Highway 518 onto southbound I-5 in a white Chevy SUV, unaware that a semi truck was disabled in the right lane ahead.

In an effort to get past slow-moving traffic, he cut across before legally allowed and crashed into the logging truck as the truck driver was placing traffic cones in the roadway.

“Witnesses stated the Chevy was following a UPS truck which most likely blocked his view of the disabled semi,” Trooper Julie Startup said.

The logging truck driver, a 29-year-old Springfield, Ore., woman, was not injured.
