CHENEY, Wash. (AP) - A sex offender who fled monitoring in Denver was reportedly spotted in Cheney.

KREM reports Eastern Washington University sent a text alert to students Thursday after Eric Eugene Hartwell reportedly was seen in town and on campus.

The 51-year-old cut off his monitoring bracelet and walked away from a Denver halfway house last Friday.

He has previous arrests in Washington for child rape in 1991 in Snohomish County and attempting to sexually assault a hitchhiker in 1996 in Skagit County. He also cut off a GPS bracelet in 2009 in Washington.

Hartwell is described as white, 6-foot-2, weighing 205 pounds with blue eyes.
