SEATTLE -- A woman who popped in to use a restroom at Seattle Central Community College Wednesday morning says she got quite a surprise when a man fell through the ceiling onto the floor.

Joy Estill said it happened at the restroom on the third floor by the main elevator around 11 a.m.

"My initial reaction was 'Do you need help?' -- I thought he was a worker," Estill said. "But then I realized he was not dressed like a worker doing labor; he was dressed like a regular person coming off the street."

She said she and other students rushed in and held the man until security officers arrived and placed the man into handcuffs.

Estill told KOMO News she saw a disposable camera in his hand and assumed he was taking pictures, but Seattle police said the man was hiding from officers from an incident that happened a short while earlier.

Workers at a fast-food type restaurant in the 200 block of Broadway Ave. E. had called officers because the man was trying to break into a locked bathroom door with a pocket knife, said Jeff Kappel with Seattle police.

As officers arrived the man ran south on Broadway and then went up the third floor of the community college. Kappel said the man apparently went into the women's restroom and climbed into the ceiling to hide.

Investigators have not what charges the man may face.
