Man stabbed during Amber Alert kidnapping dies
Police investigate after Aaron Smith was stabbed Thursday.
SHORELINE, Wash. - A man has died just days after he was stabbed in the chest and his children abducted in an incident that triggered an Amber Alert.

Officials at Harborview Medical Center confirmed Sunday that stabbing victim Aaron Smith has died.

 Doreen Starrish

Police say Smith was stabbed Thursday by his ex-girlfriend, Doreen Starrish, at his home on NE 190th Street. She then left with the couple's 7- and 3-year-old daughters, triggering an Amber Alert.

The Amber Alert was cancelled several hours later after the children were dropped off with a relative. The girls remain in protective custody.

Starrish remains on the run and likely faces increased charges when she is caught, now that Smith has died of his stab wounds.

"We would encourage our suspect to turn herself in," King County Sheriff's spokeswoman Sgt. Katie Larsen said earlier. "It's only a matter of time before we find her, and I'm sure she probably has a great deal she wants to tell us."

Doreen Starrish has an extensive police record, including drug offenses and assault.

Anyone who has information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the King County Sheriff's Office or call 911.
