Man wanted in killing of Shoreline teen turns himself in

SEATTLE -- A man wanted in a shooting that left a 17-year-old girl dead and a young man seriously injured turned himself in to police late Sunday.
Joseph D. Cooley surrendered at the King County Jail after several days on the run, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Cindi West.
Cooley has been charged with murder and attempted murder in the May 16 shooting that claimed the life of Shorecrest High School student Tiana Montgomery.
Darrold Edwards, an 18-year-old student at Shorewood High School, was wounded in the shooting.
Prosecutors say Cooley opened fire on them in an apartment building parking lot in the 300 block of NW Richmond Road.
According to court documents, Edwards and Montgomery and another friend had agreed to meet Cooley and two of his friends in the parking lot so they could return a cell phone that belonged to Cooley's friend.
Cooley and his friends were waiting in Cooley's blue Ford Mustang when Edwards and Montgomery arrived, and one of those friends got into an argument with Montgomery as she sat in the driver's seat of the SUV, police said.
Prior to this meeting, Edwards had only met Cooley once before, court documents say.
Cooley then walked over to the passenger side of the SUV, where Edwards was sitting, and racked back the slide of a handgun, according to court documents.
Edwards got out of the SUV to confront Cooley, and that's when Cooley opened fire at Edwards, hitting him in the knee, court papers say.
Edwards screamed and turned to jump back into the passenger seat of the SUV, and he was shot at least two more times in the back, court papers say.
As Edwards got back into the SUV, Montgomery sped out of the parking lot and told Edwards she had been shot.
Montgomery passed out and Edwards drove the SUV while calling 911 to report the shooting. He was met by police and medics, who rushed him and Montgomery to Harborview Medical Center.
Montgomery died of her injuries a short time later. Edwards underwent emergency surgery and is recovering.
Cooley is being held on $2 million bail.
