Police met with hostile crowd at scene of deadly shooting
SEATTLE -- Shots once again rang out Wednesday evening in a notoriously violent area of Rainier Beach, leaving a young man dead and police dealing with an angry crowd.

Police and paramedics were called to Rainier Avenue South and South Fisher Place just before 8:30 p.m. after getting a call of shots fired. When they arrived on scene, they found a 31-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds.

As many as 50 people were gathered at the scene, and police say they were hostile and initially prevented officers from helping the victim, according to Det. Mark Jamieson with Seattle police.

The man was given CPR and taken Harborview Medical Center where he later died.

No arrests have been made, and the name of the man who was killed has not been released.

This is far from the first time violence has touched the neighborhood.

It was just last Saturday that a man was taken to the hospital after being shot in the leg in the 9100 block of Rainier Avenue South, which is less than a block away from Wednesday's crime scene.

On February 21, two men were shot and killed outside of a restaurant in the 9400 block of Rainier Avenue South. On January 26, a 15-year-old boy and a 29-year-old man were both shot in the 9100 block of Rainier Avenue South. On January 3, two more people were shot outside of a Subway sandwich shop in the 9300 block of Rainier Avenue South. Last September, a man in his 20s was shot in the leg at outside of a Safeway in the 9200 block of Rainier Avenue South.

In October, 2010, a 17-year-old boy was shot and critically injured just two blocks away from the Safeway at a bus stop at Rainier Avenue South and Cloverdale.
