Police: Critically injured crash victim ID'd through public input

RENTON, Wash. - A woman who was critically injured Saturday morning in a hit-and-run crash has been identified, thanks to input from the public, police said.
The woman, who was hit by a car while walking or jogging in the 4000 block of Lake Washington Boulevard at about 8:45 a.m. Saturday, is clinging to life in the intensive care unit of Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Officers found the woman lying in blackberry bushes alongside the roadway after responding to a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the woman was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault, said Cmdr. David Leibman of the Renton police. The driver initially fled the scene, but then returned.
An investigation found that the victim was walking or jogging along the roadway just south of the Seahawks training camp when a car slammed into her, throwing her some 25 to 30 feet into blackberry bushes. Alcohol and excessive speed may have been factors in the crash, police said.
The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where she is unconscious and listed in critical condition.
Renton police had asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the woman. She carried no identification, and mentioned her name was “Ros” or “Rose” or something similar before losing consciousness, Leibman said.
Police later provided photos of the woman's keychain, earpiece and shoes in the hope that someone would recognize them - and someone did. That person contacted police.
Officials are now notifying family members about her accident, and her identity still has not been released to the public.
