Police: Son high on drugs kills mother, assaults father
Lavonn Williams Jr.
SPANAWAY, Wash. -- A mother is dead and a father was injured after their son attacked them with household furniture, deputies said.

Neighbors called 911 to report glass breaking and multiple people screaming at the home in the 15500 block of Spanaway Loop Road around 10 p.m. Monday night, said Det. Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies arrived and found a man and woman unconscious on the floor with obvious head wounds while another man, identified as 39-year-old Lavonn Williams Jr. was standing in the room screaming, Troyer said.

Williams was arrested and the other two were rushed to St. Joseph Medical Center where the woman later died.

Troyer identified the victims as Williams' parents: 56-year-old Brenda Williams and 64-year-old Lavonn Williams, Sr.

Detectives determined that Brenda Williams had been beaten with a dining room chair while Lavonn Willaims Sr. had been attacked with a vacuum cleaner. Williams Sr.'s injuries were considered severe but he was expected to survive.

Troyer hasn't said what prompted the attack, but noted that it appeared Williams Jr. was high on drugs.

Williams, Jr. is being held for investigation of first degree aggravated murder and first degree assault. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.

Troyer says Williams Jr. has an extensive criminal history.
