Police: Speeding motorcyclist collides with ambulance

SEATTLE - A speeding motorcyclist received medical aid in near record time after crashing into an ambulance early Saturday near downtown Seattle, police said.
Seattle police spokeswoman Renee Witt said the incident unfolded at about 2:05 a.m. Saturday in the 1900 block of Boren Avenue.
The Seattle Fire Department ambulance was on an emergency call with sirens and lights flashing when it pulled into a driveway at the scene.
As the ambulance turned left into the driveway, the medic crew saw a motorcycle coming straight at them at high speed.
The motorcycle wobbled, then went down. The motorcycle went sliding past, but the rider slid under the front of the front of the ambulance, which had stopped, and slammed up against the front tires.
The ambulance quickly backed up and medics quickly began treating the motorcyclist for injuries.
It appears that motorcycle traveled at least 200 feet after going down, indicating excessive speed, Witt said. The motorcyclist also admitted that he’d been drinking, police said.
As medics were treating the rider at the scene, an unruly crowd gathered and began arguing with the aid crew. Medics called for backup from Seattle police, who dispersed the crowd.
The rider was taken to Harborview Medical Center with a possible broken arm.
He was processed for DUI but will likely be released pending further investigation, Witt said.
