Police: Man assaults girl, crashes car, fires shot, flees
SEATTLE - A 24-year-old man assaulted his girlfriend as he was driving, crashed his car, then fired a gunshot at the girlfriend before fleeing into the woods on foot in West Seattle, police said.

The girlfriend, who is 17, was not hit by the gunshot, and the suspect remains at large, said Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel.

The incident unfolded Saturday at about 1:10 p.m. as officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving a car crash and shots fired in the 2600 block of SW Brandon Street.

A preliminary investigation found that the man assaulted his girlfriend while driving in a white 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo, Kappel said.

The car began swerving recklessly and then crashed into the woods south of the West Seattle Golf Course.

The suspect fired a gunshot at the victim then jumped out of the car and fled into the woods on foot.

When police arrived, they found a bullet hole that went through the passenger door outward, but the victim was not hit and did not require medical attention. No innocent bystanders were injured.

A large wooded area between the West Seattle Golf Course and High Point was sealed off by officers and two K-9 police dogs tracked and searched the wooded area, but the suspect could not be found and remains at large.

No description of the suspect was immediately available.

The incident remains under investigation.
