Maybe it's not just what you're legally required to do.

Maybe it comes down to just doing what is right.

And so I'd like to invite the Auburn mayor and the city's police chief to step off their pedestal and come on down.

The City of Auburn is refusing to pay for extensive damage caused to a rental home after a swat team was forced to go in after a wanted criminal.

Dozens of tear gas canisters were fired into the house as police tried to flush out a guy who had threatened to kill cops and his girlfriend.

The woman who owns the house - hoping it would be her retirement nest egg - is now facing upwards of $75,000 in repairs to make the home habitable again.

Her homeowners insurance doesn't cover the damage, and the City of Auburn has denied her claim saying police simply did what they had to do to protect the public.

This isn't about what police had to do, it's all about what the city refuses to do.

The city claims it has no legal obligation to pick up the repair bill in this case.

What about a moral obligation?

What about an ethical responsibility?

The City of Auburn is quite prepared to throw a woman's retirement nest egg into the toilet, which is why I think Auburn city officials should take a deep bow, because this "Schrammie" is for them.

And if you'd like to give the Mayor a call to encourage him to reconsider the decision and help Noreen Ronser get her house back in order, here's the Mayor's phone number: 253-931-3041

Or, if you'd prefer sending an email: plewis@auburnwa.gov .

Be polite, but firm.
