Woman dies after drive-by shooting on Tukwila's Int'l Blvd.
SEATTLE - A 19-year-old woman has died despite efforts to save her after police found her with a gunshot wound to the head Thursday night during a traffic stop on Interstate 5.
The bizarre incident unfolded around 9 p.m. Friday when police pulled over a speeding driver in a white Cadillac Escalade on northbound I-5 at Dearborn Street.
Officers discovered bullet holes in the shattered passenger side window of the vehicle, and then found the young woman passenger inside, bleeding with a gunshot wound to the head..
She was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where she later died.
Officers determined that the shooting had actually taken place earlier on International Boulevard in Tukwila, and that the driver of the Escalade had driven north on I-5, where the vehicle was spotted by police and pulled over.
Tuwkila police blocked off a mile of International Boulevard in the vicinity of 116th Street and found bullet casings all over the roadway.
So far, police have no idea who idea who fired the fatal shots or why.
"We really don't know why - we're talking to the driver - we're trying to develop evidence, but we really don't have a motive right now for the shooting," said Mike Murphy of the Tukwila police.
Murphy said officers have determined that the shooting wasn't a fight between drivers, and it wasn't road rage. It was a drive-by shooting - at a time when a lot of other people were out and about.
Police are searching for the shooter right now, but no description was immediately available.
The driver of the Escalade was not injured.
Murphy said police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information.
