Pizza and Pipes will not be reborn.
Back in August, the landmark pizza restaurant that featured a 1930 pipe organ was heavily damaged in a fire. At that time the owners said they planned to rebuild.
But the harsh realities of today's economy have forced Dick and Margaret Daubert to change their minds.
Since it would have cost $700,000 just to replace the building that would have meant thousands more to try to bring back the vintage organ and kitchen equipment.
The Dauberts, now in their 60's, decided that really wasn't the thing to do. So, what remained of the building has been demolished and the property in University Place will be sold.
Pizza and Pipes had been a popular place to eat for 24 years. The huge organ, once used in a theater, provided entertainment for all ages.
What's left of the organ has been sold to friends in Portland for use at a venue there.
