Nude Bikers Warned Again: Stay Away From Fremont Parade
SEATTLE - Oh, those wacky folks in Fremont.

Seattle's artsy, quirky Fremont neighborhood has its annual solstice parade to welcome the summer season. But in recent years, the parade has featured an anonymous contingent of nude bicyclists, and city officials are trying to head off a repeat at this year's celebration on June 16th.

City officials are asking the Fremont Arts Council to post as many as 14 signs along the parade route, warning the public that indecent exposure is subject to arrest and prosecution. They also want the signs posted on the arts council's Web site and parade fliers.

Virginia Swanson, the city's special events coordinator, says the arts council has a responsibility to make the parade a family event where everyone can feel comfortable.

Laura Baumwall, the arts council president, says police have asked them to cooperate but haven't threatened to withhold their parade permit.
