Ryan Leaf -- the former star quarterback for Washington State University -- has had some problems fitting in with NFL teams. But the Seattle Seahawks are taking a chance, and have signed him to a one-year contract.
Terms were not released, but it reportedly is for the NFL minimum salary of $525,000.
Leaf was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Monday.
Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren says Leaf will compete with rookie Jeff Kelly and free agent Ryan Van Dyke for the third-string quarterback's job in Seattle.
Trent Dilfer is Seattle's starter, and Matt Hasselbeck is his backup.
Leaf has played for San Diego, Tampa Bay and Dallas, but as a starter has just a 4-17 record.
The Seahawks' training camp will open July 26 in Cheney.
