SEATTLE - His religion doesn't allow saluting the flag.

It also keeps him from swearing allegiance to the United States, or to the State of Washington.

So, why would this guy take a job that requires all of the above?

Because he thought that the insanely politically correct world we live in would, of course, make an exception for him.

Gregory Lawson was on his way to becoming a Washington State Patrol Officer. He was one week into his training when it apparently dawned on him that - uh oh - he'd be required to take oaths and do salutes.

As a Jehovah's Witness, he can't do that.

So, Lawson did what anyone who believes that the world should conform specifically to them would do: he sued.

He went to court crying 'religious discrimination'.

Now, in these times, the court could easily have ordered this guy be teamed up with some Quaker who also has dreams of being a cop.

That way, Jehovah's Witness could carry the Quaker's gun, and the Quaker could take the oaths and snap the salutes.

Either one of them could have then posed for the Muslim woman who aspires to be a police officer, but can't have I.D. pictures taken with her face showing.

The Muslim woman, in turn, could weave hemp holsters for the vegans who object to using leather.

But a strange thing ended up happening.

Lawson lost his court case.

He appealed.

And lost again.

Score one for common sense winning over political correctness. It's a rare victory these days.
