FedEx Truck Explodes Near St. Louis
ST. LOUIS - A drowsy truck driver may be to blame for a wreck and explosion of a FedEx tractor-trailer on I-270 near St. Louis.

The tractor-trailer was a total loss, but the driver and the passenger were unhurt.

State officials say the truck's driver began to fall asleep, and the truck touched a highway wall. They say when the driver tried to correct for that, the truck hit a light pole, igniting the fuel tank.

Missouri's Homeland Security director was notified -- because of concern that the fire may have been caused by a package inside the truck.

But he says that wasn't the case -- and he's been assured that the fire resulted from the accident.
