SEATTLE - It looked like something right out of an episode of "Cops."

A carjacking Friday morning in Seattle sparked a high speed chase by Seattle Police.

Police say the suspect took the car in the Northgate area at 95th and Roosevelt and was soon spotted by officers.

Spokeswoman Deanna Nollette says a couple of cars were hit as the suspect drove along Roosevelt on his way to going southbound on I-5.

"I was with a customer and we looked out and my car was shaking. I said 'my car's too big to be shaking' and this guy said, 'no I think you got hit,' " said Heather Thornock, who works in a glass shop near by.

The chase then went onto southbound I-5 and continued until the fleeing car crashed near the Roanoke exit when struck by a police cruiser.

"He crashed against the wall initially because an officer nudged him from behind to put him against the wall," said Officer Duane Fish with the Seattle Police Department. "He started to go back into traffic, and another officer pinned him in so he couldn't go anywhere.

Video provided by Department of Transportation cameras shows the driver trying to get out of the car and flee. At that point a swarm of officers jumped the man and wrestled him to the ground. At one point, police say the suspect appeared to be wielding a weapon, but it turned out to be a leatherman's tool.

There were no injuries to officers or other drivers, other than the suspect who was bloodied when taken away in handcuffs.

Meanwhile, back at Roosevelt, Brad Trowl figured his older model car is totaled.

"My car got hit first and then he just kept side swiping them down the line," he said.

Police say the chase speeds never got that high, as heavy traffic in the area kept the suspect from going all that fast. They say the heavy traffic allowed officer to keep up with the suspect without endangering other drivers.

Police also interviewed the couple that had their car stolen. They were a bit shaken up by the ordeal, but otherwise, OK.
