NEW YORK - Officials overseeing the rebuilding of the World Trade Center have narrowed it down to two designs.
One proposal includes twin lattice-work towers. The other design would expose the foundation walls of the toppled towers. Either would be the tallest buildings in the world.
There's no decision yet on a memorial for the World Trade Center, but if a Seattle man has his way, it would 'embrace the emptiness we all feel."
His name is Ron Drummond. Recently unemployed, Ron's friends felt so strongly about his memorial design, they paid for his trip to New York City so he could make his pitch.
You can see his design at this Web site.
Drummond, who's 43 years old, spent 100 hours creating his work of art even though: "I'm not an architect," says Drummond.
He calls his design "The Garden Steps". Two empty spaces mark where the Twin Towers once stood.
"One day, there were these two towers and the next day there was empty air," he said. "And I thought a memorial had to embody both realities."
Drummond says he cried like a baby after the terror attacks. He hopes whichever design is picked, what will rise in lower Manhattan is something, "that will be bursting with life", he says.
And something that will help us heal.
